Benefit cosmetics was started by twins Jean and Jane Ford in San Francisco 1976. They wanted to make cosmetics fun and quirky and their popularity meant they soon outgrew their first store. In January 1997 they opened their first counter in the Uk, in Harrods in London. They now have over 1000 counters in 25 different countries with the one in Selfridges, London being the largest in the world.
